Container Community! We have noticed that there are always questions concerning designs when thinking about starting the container home journey. We aim to bring our readers answers to every part of the container home build and are always on the lookout for reputable businesses that can assist in all aspects of the process. We have found a company that seems to do it all when it comes to the actual building process and we met with their lead designer to get an idea of what the customer can expect when Container Construction Systems helps them create their dream container home layout.

Container Construction Systems specializes in numerous systems as they pertain to shipping container construction. This includes the doors, windows, insulation, roof, connection and transporting them to the building site. It is an American owned and operated company, owned in part by Robin Weatherby, a disabled female veteran. Robin is also the head of the designing department and is the quintessential representation of the American dream. She began her career completing a tour for the US coast guard, attended school for construction and business management, and is an accomplished local artist specializing in carving. She has participated in the arts and design field for over 25 years; and creating something new and unexpected out of recyclable materials is one of the things that lead her to the container construction business.

Robin’s container home journey began when she was researching doomsday prepper shelters. She was watching a show where there was a couple building a prepper shelter out of a shipping container. The idea that you could reuse something as simple as a used shipping container and create a living space out of it was an inspiration to her and from then on she was hooked on the container home life. She became passionate about creating innovative, resourceful, one of a kind container home designs that the average person might not even believe possible. She enjoys the fact that building a home using containers is akin to playing with adult legos, and her favorite designs involve stacking the containers into funky yet functional shapes. The only thing more exciting than using her artist background to take old, used, metal boxes and turn them into dream homes, is the sound of her customer’s voices when they see their container design for the first time. We asked Robin what has to occur before getting to the final dream home layout, and she gave us the basic step by step process the client can expect, starting from the first phone call.

Step 1:
Contact Robin at Container Construction Systems at 423.680.7450 Monday- Friday. She will begin by going over what the clients need. This includes how many bedrooms, baths, acreage available, and budget. Throughout the initial phone call, she gets a feel of the client, their style, and begins to form an idea of the design.

Step 2:
Robin takes all of the information that was acquired and creates the first draft. Once the original layout is created a virtual meeting through screen share will be set.

Step 3:
The virtual meeting will involve an in-depth overview of the 3D design. The customer uses this time to talk about any small changes that they would like to make; and then decisions can be made about colors, textures, flooring, roofing, etc.

Step 4:
A second draft is sent out to the customer to study. They can then make any final changes or additions, and then the final virtual meeting is set.

Step 5:
The final meeting involves finalizing the plans, and going over any questions they might have. Then once the customer is happy they can move on to architectural plans!
